Understanding Screens Features

What Are Zones?

Zones allow you to divide a screen into multiple sections that display different content at the same time.

Instead of showing a single piece of content across the entire screen, zones let you organize your display into separate areas. Each zone can play its own playlist or type of content independently.

For example, you might display a video in the main area of the screen while showing news, social feeds, or announcements in smaller sections.

How Zones Work

Zones split a screen into multiple layout areas. Each zone acts as its own content container and can display different types of media.

For example, a screen could include:

  • A large central zone playing videos

  • The side zones showing social media posts and/or announcements

All zones run simultaneously, allowing the screen to show multiple pieces of information at once.

Example Layout

A common digital signage layout using zones might look like this:

  • Main Zone (70–80% of the screen) Displays videos or slideshow content

  • Side Zones Shows Instagram posts or news feeds

This layout allows the screen to communicate several messages without switching between scenes.

Zones vs Overlays

Zones and overlays both allow additional content on a screen, but they work differently.

Zones

  • Divide the screen into separate content areas

  • Each area plays different playlists or media

Overlays

  • Appear on top of existing content

  • Display small elements like clocks, weather, or logos

Zones control the screen layout, while overlays add extra information above the content.

When to Use Zones

Zones are useful when you want to display multiple types of content simultaneously, such as:

  • Video content with a news feed

  • A menu board with promotions

  • Social media feeds alongside marketing content

  • Announcements displayed beside main content

This layout approach is common for retail displays, corporate dashboards, and information screens.

Tips for Using Zones

When designing screens with zones:

  • Keep the main message in the largest zone

  • Or choose a zone template that works best for you

  • Make sure text-related stuff remains large enough to read from a distance
