Understanding Screens Features

What Are Overlays?

Overlays are elements that appear on top of your main screen content in Juuno.

They allow you to add useful information or visual elements without interrupting your playlist. For example, you might display the current time, weather, announcements, or a logo while your regular content continues playing underneath. Overlays enhance your digital signage by layering additional information over your screen.

How Overlays Work

Overlays sit above the main content layer of your screen.

Your screen continues to play playlists, images, or videos as usual, while the overlay displays additional information on top.

For example:

  • A clock overlay in the corner of the screen

  • A weather widget displayed on top of the content

  • A logo or text that stays visible during playback

Because overlays run independently from the playlist, they remain visible while different scenes play.

Common Uses for Overlays

Overlays are often used to display small pieces of information that should stay visible on the screen.

Common examples include:

  • Current time

  • Weather information

  • Company logos

  • Announcements or alerts

These elements help add useful context without replacing the main content being shown.

Example Use Case

For example, a café screen could show:

  • A menu slideshow as the main playlist

  • A weather overlay in the corner

  • A logo overlay at the top of the screen

This allows the screen to communicate multiple pieces of information at once.

Tips for Using Overlays

To keep screens clear and readable:

  • Avoid placing overlays where they block important content

  • Use overlays mainly for small informational elements

  • Limit the number of overlays so the screen does not feel cluttered

Overlays work best when they provide quick information without distracting from the main message.
